Wanderly
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 September 2026
In short: you sign in with Google, so Wanderly never sees your password. We keep your name, email, profile photo and what you do in the app (projects, places, votes and chat) so your group can plan a trip together. Only people in your project can see that project. You can delete your account and data at any time.
Who runs Wanderly
Wanderly is a free trip-planning app run by an individual developer (“the organiser”, “we”). It isn't a company. See Contact for how to reach us.
What we collect
| Information | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| From your Google account: your name, email address, profile photo and a Google user ID | To sign you in, show who you are to your group, and make sure each person votes once |
| Your sign-in record: when you first signed in and when you last signed in | Kept by Google's sign-in service to run your account |
| Projects you create or join: the project name and who is in it (name and photo) | To show your projects and who is in each one |
| Places you add: name, location on the map, description, things to do, and your name as the person who suggested it | To show the places on your group's map |
| Your votes (yes or no for each place), with your name and photo | To count votes and show who wants to go where |
| Chat messages you send, when you sent them, and any reports of messages | To run your group's chat and keep it safe |
| Itinerary stops (places, dates, times, meeting points, notes) and reservation checklist items, including your name when you tick one off | To plan the trip with your group |
We do not collect your password, phone number, device location (GPS) or payment details. We don't use advertising, tracking or analytics tools, and we never sell your information.
Who can see your information
- People in the same project can see that project's places, votes and chat, and the names and photos of its members. People in your other projects can't.
- The organiser can access the database to run the app, fix problems and respond to reports or requests.
- Our service providers (below) process information on our behalf.
Service providers and where your data is stored
| Provider | What they handle |
|---|---|
| Google Firebase (Authentication and Firestore) | Your sign-in record and everything saved in the app. Stored in Google's Singapore region (asia-southeast1). Encrypted in transit and at rest. |
| Google (sign-in) | Your Google password and account. Wanderly never receives your password. |
| Firebase Hosting and GitHub Pages | Host the website. They receive your IP address when you visit. |
| OneMap (Singapore Land Authority) | Addresses, postal codes and place names you search for, and your IP address, to find where they are. |
| OpenStreetMap (Nominatim and Overpass) | Place names you search for, the map area you're viewing, and your IP address, to find places, MRT stations and bus stops. |
| OpenFreeMap, unpkg, Google Fonts | Map images, app code and fonts. They receive your IP address when these load. |
Some of these providers may process information outside Singapore, under their own privacy policies.
What your browser stores
- Your sign-in session, so you stay signed in until you sign out.
- Your map choice (Simple or Detailed).
- A copy of the MRT line map, so it loads faster. It refreshes every 30 days.
These stay on your device and we can't see them. Wanderly doesn't use advertising or tracking cookies. You can clear them any time in your browser settings.
How long we keep it
- A project that nobody has opened for 12 months is deleted, with everything in it: places, votes, chat messages, itinerary stops and reservations. This happens the next time the project's owner signs in to Wanderly. If nobody from the project ever signs in again, we delete it ourselves when we find it.
- Chat messages older than 12 months are deleted when their project is next opened, even if the project is still in use.
- When you leave a project, your vote there is removed. Your messages and places stay for the group unless you delete them.
- When you delete your account, your data is removed straight away (see below).
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account: on the Projects page, use Delete my account. This removes your votes and chat messages from every project, removes your name from places you added, takes you out of every project, and deletes your sign-in record. Projects where you're the only person are deleted too.
- Delete a message: use Delete under any message you sent.
- Leave a project: in the project's Project tab.
- See or correct your information: contact us and we'll help. Your name and photo come from your Google account, so changing them there updates them here the next time you join a project.
- Withdraw consent: stop using Wanderly and delete your account.
Keeping it safe
Data is stored with Google Firebase, which encrypts it. Security rules make sure only signed-in members of a project can read that project, and people can only change their own votes and send messages as themselves. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't post sensitive information such as passport, bank or ID numbers in the chat. If a data breach affects you, we'll tell you as soon as we can.
Children
- Wanderly is not for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
- People aged 13 to 17 may use Wanderly only with a parent's or guardian's permission. Everyone confirms their age before signing in.
- If you're a parent or guardian and think your child has signed up without permission, or is under 13, contact us and we'll delete their account and data.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For bigger changes, we'll also let you know in the app.
